Republicans work hard to destroy US Democracy

"I believe the Republicans have never thought that democracy was anything but a tribal myth." -Hunter S. Thompson

By Steve Otto

The Republican Party has successfully dive bombed all efforts to protect voting rights. The Republicans know that the fewer votes cast, the more likely they are to win. And winning is about all they care about.

Preventing people from voting is the most pro-fascist action the Republicans could take. The idea of keeping people from voting is outrageous, ridiculous and just plain stupid.

Here is a rap-up of voting restrictions that have been passed in various states:[1]

“In an emerging trend, restrictive laws in four states — Georgia, Iowa, Kansas, and Texas — impose new or more stringent criminal penalties on election officials or other individuals.footnote3_lxzigat3  These new criminal laws will deter election officials and other people who assist voters from engaging in ordinary, lawful, and often essential tasks. People in Georgia can now be charged with a crime for handing out water or snacks to voters waiting in line at the polls.footnote4_07d4djp4  In Iowa and Kansas, people could face criminal charges for returning ballots on behalf of voters who may need assistance, such as voters with disabilities.footnote5_nyd8zc05  And in Texas, election officials could face criminal prosecution if they encourage voters to request mail ballots or regulate poll watchers’ conduct.footnote6_b32b2hw6

Of course the Republicans just killed the voting rights bill, the Democrats tried to pass just recently. The Democrats wanted to stop all the voter suppression, but the GOP destroyed that effort. So the attempt to destroy Democracy continues. It is too bad the GOP still relies on a bunch of selfish brain-dead middle class voters and some really brain-dead working class voters to keep them in office so they can continue their assault on what is left of US Democracy.
